A global defence electronics business is currently recruiting for a Head of Trade Compliance on a permanent full time basis in East of England.

Important

Proven experience in Export Control and International Trade Compliance (ITAR/EAR) at Senior Leadership level.

The Job

A global defence electronics business is currently recruiting for a Head of Trade Compliance on a permanent full time basis in East of England.

The Head of Trade Compliance will be responsible to interact and engage at senior level both internal and external regulatory stakeholders including Department for International Trade (DIT), HMRC and others, Trade Compliance counterparts across different business units and confident leadership of divisional import/export control teams.

Essential to have in-depth knowledge of UK Export Control Licensing, Foreign Export Licensing including the US ITAR and EAR, UK Customs procedures, as well as experience in managing export control compliance teams within the aerospace/defence or high technology sectors.

Key roles and responsibilities for Head of Trade Compliance and will not be limited to:

  • Ensure that imports and exports of goods are conducted in accordance with relevant import/export and customs regulations and within the framework of Group Directives and UK Trade Compliance Policy
  • Provide specialist advice as required to ensure compliance with internal and external standards in relation to UK and foreign import / export control laws and regulations with regards to the international trading of goods, including notifications of key regulatory changes
  • Ensure operational aspects of the Trade Compliance Programme in the Electronics Division including: risk identification and management; audit and assurance activities (internal and external); timely investigation and reporting of potential violations to internal stakeholders and relevant Government regulators; and reporting to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide support to reputational and strategically important trade compliance issues
  • Working in conjunction with the UK Legal Corporate Affairs and Compliance Leadership, use strong interpersonal, diplomacy, influencing and persuasion skills to ensure the aims and objectives of the Function are achieved, and collaborate more broadly with other functions and externally with partners and suppliers
  • Lead the Trade Compliance Functional teams which support the Electronics division, including development of the Trade Compliance organisation, career and succession plans, ensuring the appropriate allocation of suitably qualified and experienced resource, and training/development of trade compliance personnel
  • Maintain productive relationships with Government regulators (e.g. the UK Department for International Trade, UK MOD, HMRC, US Department of State, US Department of Commerce) and other external stakeholders

Key skills and experience required for Head of Trade Compliance job applicant and will not be limited to:

  • Experience in leading a Trade Compliance function at Senior level
  • Understanding of UK & US licensing procedures - HMRC & ITAR/EAR
  • Ideally background in aerospace/defence or high technology sectors
  • Must be eligible to gain UK SC Clearance
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
