Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S) has a new opportunity for a Safety Policy Manager at the Ministry of Defence (MoD) site in Abbey Wood, Bristol.
You will be part of the Safety & Environmental Protection Team leading the generation of policy, advice, and guidance regarding safety, whilst managing and mentoring a junior member of the team. You will be liaising between the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and DE&S to produce, maintain and update the Acquisition Safety and Environmental Management System (ASEMS) used within the business to demonstrate DE&S compliance with Regulation and Policy. Active participate in associated Acquisition Safety Working Groups. It will be your responsibility to update any associated systems and update any relevant stakeholders.

Responsibilities
The responsibilities of these posts will include, but not be limited to, the following:
*Supporting the safety strategy of Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S)
*Maintaining and updating Acquisitions Safety and Environmental Management Systems
*Managing the Safety Policy and Guidance reviews and updates of the Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S) Acquisition Safety and Environmental Management System
*Providing advice and guidance of DE&S Safety Policies to Delivery Teams across all Air, Land and Maritime Domains.
*Manage the reviews of Ministry of Defence (MoD) Safety, Environmental and Sustainability strategies, policies and guidance and review how this will impact the Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S) Policies
*Support for the Acquisition Safety Working Groups, reporting to the Senior Health and Safety Committee
*Manage and mentor a junior team member within the Safety & Environmental Protection Policy Team whilst driving an open and honest culture
*Deputise for the Safety & Environmental Protection Policy Assistant Team Leader as Chair at the Acquisition Safety Working Group meeting on occasions of absence. Also, to staff any proposed Safety Policy and Guidance updates of the Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S) Acquisition Safety and Environmental Management System changes for final approval by the Safety & Environmental Protection Policy Team Leader.
What you will be assessed against
To be successful with your application you must demonstrate that you meet the following essential criteria:
*You will hold a relevant Level 4 qualification (e.g. HNC or Foundation Degree) in an Engineering or relatable subject or demonstrate equivalent experience
*You will hold Incorporated Engineer status with a relevant Professional Body or be capable of achieving this within 6 months or equivalent Safety Body
*Experience working within a heavily regulated industry (e.g., defence, nuclear, aerospace, oil and gas, rail)
*Experience in generating safety policy
In addition to the responsibilities above, the following technical competencies and behaviours will be assessed at interview:
*SysSaf 1 Applies the requirements for safety management in legislation, MoD Policy, and standards. (Supervised Practitioner)
*SysSaf 2.2 Liaises with MOD safety organisations to obtain support and advice. (Supervised Practitioner)

Please note, our salary bands are under review and may increase. If the outcome of the review results in an increase in the minimum salary and your salary offer falls below the new minimum, your salary will be increased to the new amount from your contracted start date. If the new minimum is less than the salary you are offered, the original salary offer will be retained.
