The Job

A government organisation involved in the infrastructure of the UK require a Senior Commercial Manager. Applicants need experience of offering legal advice (disputes, claims, mediation, and adjudication) in relation to NEC forms of contract.

The Senior Commercial Manager will be responsible for supporting negotiations and commercial resolutions in regards to NEC forms of contract, supporting stakeholders across the organisation. The Senior Commercial Manager will also offer guidance and leadership to a team of Commercial Managers. The key purpose of the role is to manage the monitoring and management of contractual issues and disputes, provide support and expert advice to colleagues.

The Senior Commercial Officer can be based at a number of UK locations, including; Bedford, Birmingham, Bristol, Exeter, Guildford, Leeds, or Manchester.

Specific duties of the Senior Commercial Manager include:

  • Manage and advise on contractual disputes and legal escalation processes across the organisation
  • Manage a team of Commercial Managers to resolve their workbook of contractual issues
  • Act as a source of authority on NEC suite of contracts - NEC 3 and / or NEC 4
  • Manage the audit schemes and the continuous improvement of commercial governance
  • Maintenance of disputes case tracker
  • Support and deputize for the head of function

Senior Commercial Manager applicants should meet the following criteria:

  • Deep knowledge, understanding and experience with NEC forms of contract
  • Experience of dispute resolution/avoidance, claims, adjudication and the legal escalation process
  • Experience within a commercial, contracts or procurement role
  • MCIPS, RICS, IACCM, Legal, Law qualification or degree
  • The ability to manage a team of Commercial Managers, who are based across the UK
