The Job

My clients who are a world leader in the innovative defence and security systems manufacturing is currently recruiting for a Procurement / Supply Chain Manager on a permanent basis due to further growth and expansion.

The Procurement / Supply Chain Manager will be the vital part in the procurement community, managing contract execution and supplier delivery performance. Control effectively the activities of suppliers understanding overall situation and scope, co-ordinating multiple interfaces between all stakeholders involved in the supplier operations management.

Being the focal point towards the suppliers for all operational activities, the jobholder is to implement sustainable improvements of the supply chain performance. Advantageous to have a technical manufacturing background within mechanical, electro-mechanical and electronics commodities.

This Procurement / Supply Chain Manager is a standalone role and does not require any team management experience.

Applicants must be eligible to gain SC clearance.

Role - Procurement / Supply Chain Manager - Defence

Location - Stevenage, Hertfordshire

Type - Permanent

Salary - Competitive (DOE)

The key roles and responsibilities of the Procurement Manager / Supply Chain Manager - Defence role and not be limited to:

  • Manage Supplier operational performance and drive necessary collaboration
  • Day-to-day management of the suppliers from purchase order kick-off to providing all recurrent deliverables
  • Lead or participate as required in progress meetings, design reviews and production reviews
  • Control quality gates, deviation / waiver process, non-conformance processes, change process, and implement supplier surveillance & performance improvement actions plans in coordination with relevant stakeholders
  • Actively monitor & control of supplier performance and delivery.
  • Manage performance reviews with the Suppliers based on Vendor Review Board outputs
  • Maintain a close communication and coordination with all internal stakeholders to ensure timely suppliers deliveries
  • Be the main interface for assessing and reporting the supplier risks and propose mitigation actions
  • Implement recovery, improvement and follow up plans in order to secure delivery of the products and services in conformity with contract
  • Ensure compliance with export regulations for all deliverables from suppliers, on a day to day basis

Key skills and experience required for Procurement Manager / Supply Chain Manager - Defence role and not limited to:

  • Experience in buying mechanical, electro-mechanical or electronics / sub-contracted equipment
  • Ability to anticipate, assess and mitigate risks.
  • Senior Buyer / Supplier management expertise would be highly beneficial
  • Strong communication skills including active listening and empathy and strong negotiation skills and the ability to persuade, influence and convince
  • MRP / SAP experience
  • Excellent skills in relationship building
  • Eligible to gain SC clearance
