This is an exciting role to work for an up and coming organisation and really help drive and develop key supply chain strategies.
The position of the strategic buyer is responsible for co-ordination of all Purchasing related activities for new products and projects as well as support for day-to-day procurement department activities. The ideal candidate will have a degree and previous experience of project buying or supplier selection and management for complex and diverse engineered components.

The roles and responsibilities of the strategic buyer are -
Represent the purchasing department as appropriate in cross functional teams which drive through new project introductions to strict time and cost constraints
Preparation of costed Bills of Materials and the maintenance and development of these through the life of the project including cost down roadmaps
Identify potential vendors, launch RFQ's, negotiate terms and conditions with vendors
Responsible for tracking supplier progress to ensure 100% on time delivery of tooling and samples at the right quality level. Chair technical reviews and ensure drawings are understood and approved before suppliers accept projects in collaboration with colleagues in Supplier Development department.
Resolution of quality and delivery issues for bought-in components
Provide input, with justification, with regard to forecast spend and variations for those projects under management and for annual budgets of direct materials
Presentation of monthly reports and KPI's
In collaboration with the Engineering department ensure a cost effective design via concurrent engagement with potential supply base
Propose sourcing options for decisions. Guide and influence engineering component selections. Ensure all purchased parts are nominated and approved for source in time to meet project builds
Ensure the proper production capacity and tools are implemented by vendors
Negotiate, agree and set up supply contracts
The ideal candidate for the role will have -
Experienced MRP user
Relevant degree qualification, eg mechanical engineering or material science
Experience within high volume manufacturing or an automotive supplier
At least 5 years' procurement or project background * A track record in managing procurement projects either via NPI projects or on VAVE programme
