The Job

A regional utilities provider are recruiting an Assistant Category Manager to support the development of procurement strategy. Applicants need analytical skills and experience of running tenders.

The Assistant Category Manager will work closely with the Category Manager in the development and execution of procurement strategy. This position presents an excellent opportunity for an ambitious procurement professional to develop a progressive career within one of the most dynamic, and forward-thinking procurement functions on the South Coast. The Assistant Category Manager will predominately be responsible for; supplier market analysis activities, running tenders, negotiating and building relationships with suppliers. This position will focus on procurement activities within the MEICA category, and the jobholder will work with suppliers of mechanical & electrical services, instrumentation and equipment.

Specific duties of the Assistant Category Manager will include:

  • Conduct supply market analysis, and market intelligence (benchmarking) activities for the category
  • Running the tender process for mechanical & electrical related products and services
  • Provide cost change analysis to support re-negotiations
  • Provide commodity pricing and spend data to inform strategy
  • Use of e-sourcing procurement tools
  • Support Category Manager in the development of strategies and achievement of cost saving targets
  • Engage effectively with stakeholders - understand what they need from procurement

Assistant Category Manager applicants should meet the following criteria:

  • Procurement, commercial or supply chain experience
  • Experience of co-ordinating, running or managing tenders
  • Out-going, relationship builder who can engage with stakeholders both senior and operational
  • A desire for a progressive career within procurement and category management
  • Degree educated, CIPS qualified, part CIPS qualified or the ambition to ascertain CIPS.
  • Strong IT, including MS Excel skills
