Strategic Buyer - Electrical & Mechanical Manufacturing

Our client is a leading player in the electrical and mechanical manufacturing industry, known for innovation, quality, and a commitment to excellence. With a rich history spanning over 30 years, they have continuously strived to push the boundaries of technology and engineering. As they expand operations and embrace new challenges, they are looking for an experienced Senior Buyer to join the team and play a vital role in our journey towards continuous improvement.

Position Overview: You will be responsible for driving our procurement strategy, ensuring that we source the highest-quality materials and components while optimising costs and supplier relationships. This role is pivotal in our mission to deliver exceptional products and maintain our competitive edge in the market.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute sourcing strategies that align with the company's objectives, focusing on continuous improvement and cost optimisation.
  • Work collaboratively and engage with stakeholders and suppliers regarding new projects, demand
    and supply initiatives and advise any impact or change on purchasing and production activities.
  • Identify and evaluate potential suppliers, negotiate contracts, and establish strong supplier relationships.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, production, and quality assurance, to ensure alignment on sourcing needs.
  • Manage and develop sources of supply (rationalising where appropriate), ensuring performance
    monitoring is undertaken and spend optimisation.
  • Conduct market research to stay updated on industry trends, supplier capabilities, and emerging technologies.
  • Lead supplier performance evaluations, monitoring and improving supplier quality, delivery, and cost performance.
  • Manage the procurement process, from RFQ (Request for Quotation) to PO (Purchase Order) issuance, to ensure timely and cost-effective procurement.
  • Implement and oversee supplier development and improvement programs.
  • Collaborate with the finance team to manage and control procurement budgets effectively.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior procurement staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Several years of experience in procurement or strategic sourcing within the electrical and mechanical manufacturing industry.
  • Self-starter, who demonstrates ownership and can follow problems through to resolution.
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office, SharePoint, and ERP systems - Oracle
  • Strong negotiation and contract management skills.
  • Demonstrated success in supplier development and performance improvement.
  • Proficiency in procurement software and tools.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to drive change and make data-driven decisions.
  • A commitment to continuous improvement and a results-oriented mindset.
