We are currently recruiting for a Senior Bid Manager to take a lead role in the generation of bids across the company ensuring that the bid process is applied appropriately and consistently to all bids.

The Senior Bid Manager ensures that: -

  • Bids and proposals are developed in accordance with Shipley best practice.
  • Responsible for driving the Business Winning approach to preparing, writing and submitting proposals to deliver on the clients Business Winning strategy.
  • Ensuring each bid is adequately resourced and monitoring against the stated bid budget.
  • Oversee all governance reviews and ensuring adherence to the companies processes and policies.
  • Will be responsible for all aspects of proposal preparation, ensuring that a high quality, compliant and compelling bid is submitted in accordance with customer requirements.
  • In support of Business Development capture, review of customer requirements to ensure that they are met in the proposal and collaborate with functional leads to include all necessary information within the proposal.

The Senior Bid Manager will normally be responsible for the entire bid process, from bid decision to submission. When not working on specific bids, the Senior Bid Manager will be responsible for continual improvement activities, including monitoring and progressing bid policies and process requirements.

The Role:

  • Build and manage relationships with internal / external stakeholders to ensure all bids are prepared, managed and reviewed appropriately and in line with the companies policies and processes.
  • Developing the bid plan and managing resources and activity to achieve agreed milestone dates.
  • Participating in the formulation of bid strategies and ensuring that they are implemented in the bid.
  • Translate and apply the appropriate strategy for managing bids to mitigate risks and capitalise on opportunities within the bid.
  • Schedule and plan Gate Reviews and Proposal Reviews.
  • Plan, lead and challenge the cost build up and pricing effort.
  • Work with bid team to identify risk and develop mitigation plans.
  • Plan and manage bid spend to deliver bids on budget.
  • Manage the proposal document development process - win themes, hot buttons, storyboarding, graphics and content.
  • Drive the bid approval process and ensure that the appropriate level of bid Approval is obtained.
  • Lead bid reviews and meetings in accordance with the companies processes, providing bid management direction and engagement with the bid team.
  • Ensuring bids are delivered within the companies guidelines, with phase reviews held and the required approvals gained.
  • Building and maintaining a library of proposal boilerplate materials.
  • Experience in securing internal approvals for bids.
  • Experience of working in Project Teams in a commercial environment, ideally Defence or Aerospace.
  • Proven bid & proposal management track record of delivering high quality, persuasive proposals on time.
  • Experience of leading multi-disciplinary bid teams.
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in a complex bid environment.
  • Comprehensive experience and knowledge of the bid life cycle.
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills with written presentation and report writing skills.
  • Excellent technical writing skills and the experience of generating compelling proposal content.
  • Expert user of MS Office applications.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Good working ethics and ability to treat documents with confidentiality.
